Thermafiber develops new solution for curtain wall sector

The High-Rise Insulation Experts at Thermafiber have developed another solution for the curtain wall industry. The new system (CW-D-1014) was tested with a 24" high spandrel area, the shortest spandrel height in the UL Fire Resistance Directory. This is also the first UL system that allows for the extension of vision glass to the floor line. The new system reduces material costs and installation time for curtain wall manufacturers and contractors.

The UL System, CW-D-1014, incorporates multiple components of Thermafiber's patented Impasse system. The Impasse hangers eliminate the need to install a backer bar/reinforcement member at the floor line. The hangers serve a dual purpose of securing the spandrel insulation and providing the support needed for the compressed Safing insulation. Short spandrel systems are historically difficult to insulate correctly, the new Thermafiber system simplifies the installation while reducing labor and material costs.

"Architects are designing their buildings with as much vision glass as possible," says Angie Ogino, Technical Services Manager. "We developed this system to provide a solution for increased vision glass and a 2 hour F rating. Thermafiber has provided a solution for shorter spandrel heights while maintaining the life safety in a building.

All Thermafiber products and systems are supported by the Thermafiber Insolutions team which provides clients with custom CAD drawings, technical support and engineering judgments.

Thermafiber, Inc. is the leading manufacturer of premium mineral wool insulation products. Their commercial insulation products are specified four-to-one over other brands of commercial mineral wool. For 75 years, Thermafiber has provided industry-leading commercial insulation solutions that conserve energy, control noise, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide lifesaving fire protection.
