New strategy to create more job opportunities for Moroccan handicrafts has been initiated, informed Adil Douiri, Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy.

Government's aim is to make handicraft industry a sector which creates new job opportunities.

Demand for handicrafts at national and international level is high, and there is potential to double the turnover by increasing exports and thereby creating more job opportunities, he said.

To achieve this objective, there is a need to create 10 to 15 brand firms, which can generate 37,000 jobs in 10 years.

Small and medium firms add up to create additional 15,000 job opportunities by 2015, he added.

Individual craftsmen can all combine to create up 65,000 job opportunities.

This strategy would to help craftsmen to increase their monthly income and create platform for them to contact clients, concluded the Minister.
