Cotton business marginally revives in German market

The cotton business was slightly revived on the domestic market in comparison to the previous week. Quotations for medium staple cotton tended lighter, but rose for extra-long staple cotton.

Strong daily price volatility at the ICE as well as limited availability of certain varieties did not facilitate negotiations.

Due to quality management reasons and in order to satisfy still existing demand, the processing industry was willing to make compromises concerning prices or quality.

The foremost interest aimed for nearby delivery; the second half year 2013 was interesting as well in case of specific varieties.

The following contracts were closed:

Medium staple cotton: Cotton from Spain was ordered for prompt delivery, from West Africa for prompt as well as the 2nd and 3rd quarter 2013 and USA MOT for the 2nd quarter 2013.

Long- and extra-long staple cotton: Spaniard, Egyptian Giza 88 and Israel Acalpi were purchased for prompt delivery; Sudan Barakat and US Pima for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2013.
