Four new petrochemical projects have gone on stream in Iran after they were inaugurated by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad earlier this week.

The new projects located in Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex in Mahshahr, a city in south-western Iran, would considerably boost Iran’s foreign exchange earnings, National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Managing Director Abdolhossein Bayat said, FARS News Agency reported.

The new projects would add 2.69 million tons to Iran’s petrochemical capacity and bring around US$ 1.9 billion in revenues to the country each year, Mr. Bayat said.

One of the biggest industrial set up in Iran, the Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex, situated along the north-western coast of the Persian Gulf, produces several petrochemical products including ethane, butane, propane and 5-carbonate or heavier oil fractions.

Over the last few years, Iran has significantly developed its petrochemical product range and volume.

Iran exports its petrochemical products to over 60 countries, with Far East, Southeast Asia, Africa and Central Asia being its major export destinations.

NPC is now the second biggest manufacturer and exporter of petrochemicals in the Middle East, next to Saudi Arabia.
