May '13
Textile and apparel exports from Bolivia declined by five percent year-on-year, while imports swell by 28 percent year-on-year, according to the data with the Instituto Boliviano de Commercio Exterior (IBCE or Bolivian Foreign Trade Institute).
A similar trend continued during the first quarter of the current year, the IBCE said.
The main items of textile and apparel exports from Bolivia during the first quarter were cotton shirts, innerwear, denims for men and children, knitted T-shirts, sweaters, waistcoats and cardigans.
Venezuela was the main destination for Bolivian apparel exports which imported more than 3 million pieces. Chile and Argentina were the other main destinations for Bolivian garment exports which imported 812,000 and 682,000 pieces, respectively.
The main clothing imported by Bolivia during January-March 2013 included cotton shirts, knitted T-shirts, trousers, blouses, lingerie, cotton shorts for girls and women, and clothing made of synthetic fibres for girls and women.
China was the main supplier of textile items to Bolivia, which were worth about US$ 4 million, during March 2013. Peru and Brazil followed next by supplying textiles valued at US$ 2 million.
