Demand for cotton and cotton yarn increases in China

May '13
The local traders of China say that demand and purchasing enthusiasm for cotton and cotton yarn have recently increased, especially in Qingdao, a county-level city in Jiangsu province, and Zhangjiagang, a major city in eastern Shandong province of China.

The rise in demand is in spite of the offers for cotton and cotton yarn from other Asian countries like India, Pakistan and Vietnam for the May-June shipment decreasing only by 200-300 yuan/ton.

Importers from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces of China have arranged for visits to spinning plants of India, Pakistan and Vietnam. But, some Chinese traders choose to deal with the state-owned cotton exporters based in these cotton exporting countries.

Currently the price difference between Chinese domestic and imported cotton yarn 21s and 32s is about 400-500 yuan/ton, which is enough to excite Chinese cotton yarn importers.

But some traders say it is currently not the best time to import cotton yarn as prices are likely to fall in June, once domestic textile enterprises have enough cotton reserves.
