China's cotton yarn imports shoot up in April 2013

Cotton yarn imports by China increased significantly by 50.48 percent year-on-year to 163,900 tons in April 2013, according to the latest Customs Statistics.
 
However, on a month-on-month basis, Chinese cotton yarn imports in April witnessed a decline of 17.8 percent.
 
On the other hand, China exported 49,200 tons of cotton yarn during the month, an increase of 22.71 percent year-on-year, but a 4.58 percent drop compared to March 2013.
 
Thus, China’s net cotton yarn imports in April 2013 were 114,800 tons, registering a rise of 66.62 percent year-on-year, but a fall of 22.41 percent month-on-month.
 
As per the data of the General Administration of Customs, during the ongoing cotton season that began on September 2012 till April 2013, China’s total cotton yarn imports stood at 1.225 million tons, which is a surge of 54.67 percent year-on-year.
 
During the same period, China’s overall cotton yarn exports touched 341,600 tons, showing an increase of 42.32 percent year-on-year.
 
From January to April 2013, China imported 647,600 tons of cotton yarn, up 51.33 percent year-on-year, while the country exported 185,200 tons of cotton yarn, up 31.20 percent year-on-year.
