An exhibition displaying an array of aristocratic, performance and ritual clothing of Africa is going on at the famous encyclopaedic art museum, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana, US.

Titled as Majestic African Textiles, the exhibition includes nearly sixty richly patterned and elaborately decorated textiles from a diversified group of north and sub-Saharan Africans.

Scheduled to run till March, 2, 2014, the event offers an up and close view of the vivid textile weaving cultures originated from countries like Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia and South Africa.

Curated by the famous textile and fashion arts curator Niloo Paydar, the exhibits include an elaborately tailored and embroidered drawstring trouser with a 78-inch waistline, popular among prestige-conscious Nigerian men belonging to Hausa and Nupe regions.

The exhibition also displays an exquisitely beaded royal Nigerian ceremonial tunic made of imported velvet and wool. The 46 inches long and about 100 inches wide robe is decorated with beaded patterns of medals, crowns, faux epaulettes, flowers and faces of Yoruba royal ancestors.
