US textile & apparel imports rise 10% m-o-m in April'13

Textile and apparel imports by the US grew to $7.794 billion in April 2013, registering a rise of 10.11 percent over imports of $7.077 billion made during March 2013, according to the data released by the US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA).
 
In terms of quantity, too, US textiles and garment imports increased from 3.795 billion square metre equivalents (SME) in March 2013 to 4.387 billion SME in April.
 
Category-wise, apparel imports by the US during the month under review were valued at $5.795 billion, a growth of 7.98 percent compared to imports worth $5.366 billion made a month earlier.
 
In terms of volume, US apparel imports registered 1.839 billion SME in April 2013, as against imports of 1.69 billion SME made in March.
 
During the month, US imported 2.548 billion SME of textiles valued at $1.998 billion, compared to 2.105 billion SME of textiles valued at $1.71 billion imported in March 2013.
 
From January to April 2013, US imported $31.863 billion worth of textiles and apparels, showing a marginal increase over $30.867 billion worth of goods imported during the corresponding period of last year.
 
Volume-wise, US imported 17.338 billion SME of textiles and garments during the first four months of the current year, as against imports of 16.683 billion SME made during the same period last year.
 
In 2012, US imported 54.045 billion SME of textiles and clothing worth $100.932 billion.
