The Malian Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has started implementation of its Integrated Production and Pest Management (IPPM) project in the country, Latin American News Agency reported.

The IPPM project aims to enhance the competitiveness and sustainably intensify cotton production in Africa through the development of new capabilities.

The plan, which is likely to last four years, also aims to maximize the incomes of cotton growers in Africa.

In addition to Mali, the IPPM is being implemented at a cost of €2,500 in Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Senegal and Zambia.

The objective of FAO’s project is to develop local cotton production capacity in these countries in order to promote sustainable agriculture and reduce the risks associated with chemical pesticides.
