Jute sector explores advantage of carbon credit

5 min read

The advantage of carbon credit in jute sector (Agriculture and industry) still unexplored in Bangladesh and India. The estimated CER revenue per hectare out of jute cultivation is about 23,000/- BDT which should go to the jute growers or may be shared proportionately with jute industries-contract farming.

There is lack of awareness and initiatives among industrialists, SMEs, policy makers of jute sector to implement CDM projects and exploring the benefits of carbon credits. CDM project can provide incentives to SMEs/industrialists for different technologies, to improve energy and environ-mental performance and ensure carbon cash flow. To get the full advantage of carbon credits in this sector, intervention from the Govts. of jute producing countries is also necessary.
