The Governments of Belarus and China have agreed to jointly build a soda ash plant in Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Architecture and Construction Anatoly Nichkasov has said.

The agreement on joint venture for a soda ash plant was reached during the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to China last week, the Minster told reporters.

In 2010, Belarus and China signed a contractual arrangement and a loan agreement with China’s Export-Import Bank, but there was no further progress as the requirement for setting up a project with high-added value was not fulfilled, the Minister said, according to Belarusian news agency BelTA.

Now, both the sides have agreed to set up the soda ash plant using the earlier loan. The plant will use Belarusian raw materials for production of soda ash.

The CITIC Group and the China Chemical Corporation would be issuing a tender, and the winning company would get a right to be a shareholder in the project, Mr. Nichkasov said.

Soda ash is widely used in the textile industry, especially in dyeing processes.
