With its new Sustainability Report, the Munich based chemical company provides a transparent and comprehensive account of its sustainability efforts for the benefit of its customers, business partners, employees, shareholders, the public, non-governmental organizations, regulatory bodies and the neighbors of its various sites.
The report covers traditional sustainability topics – such as environmental protection, health, workplace and plant safety, and sustainability management – as well as topics such as equal opportunity, demographics, work-life balance and international disaster aid. Compared to the 2009/2010 edition, WACKER has considerably broadened the topics reported on.
The new report is the first to include specific energy targets, figures on indirect energy consumption, and information on the relationship between water demand and the availability of fresh water.
The facts and figures in the Sustainability Report illustrate that WACKER has made substantial progress in many areas that are of importance to sustainable business management. For example, the company has reduced its specific energy consumption by 22 percent since 2007.
Sustainability is a core component of WACKER’s business model. The chemical company sees the highly promising fields of energy, urbanization and construction, digitization, and rising affluence in emerging markets as the main drivers for further growth.
What’s more, the importance of sustainability to WACKER is demonstrated by the fact that the company has made it one of its five strategic goals and has compiled its own business principles in this respect.
