The production of textile industry in Spain registered a 6.2 percent growth year-on-year, for the month of July 2013, as per the latest Industrial Production Index (IPI) data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the INE data, the rise in the textile production exceeds the 0.4 percent increase recorded by the Spanish industry in the month of July 2013.

However the IPI in the garment sector fell by 11.5 percent compared to the same month in the year of 2012.

The IPI of most of the sub-sectors in textiles also experienced a fall in the month of July, including the knitted garments segment which saw a decrease of 40.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the manufacturing of articles of fur saw an increase of 53 percent year-on-year in the month of July, whereas the IPI in production of yarn rose by 16.1 percent, processing of fabric registered an increase of 9.9 percent, and manufacturing of other textile products surged by 6.2 percent.

The IPI measures the monthly progress and productivity of industries, including extractive industries and the manufacturing sector. This indicator reflects only the quantity and quality of production, eliminating the influence of prices. This methodology is fully harmonized with the European Union countries.
