The Dominican Association of Textile Industries (ADITEX) has announced that more than 200 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Dominican Republic have started making investments in preparation for purchases by Government institutions.

David Cortes, the President of ADITEX, said that MSMEs in the country have started expanding their production capacity, including the reopening of closed businesses, the purchase of machinery, equipment repair as well as expansion of the payroll of employees, reports Dominican newspaper Listin Diario.

Mr. Cortes expressed satisfaction over the successful process of tender secured by the Ministry of Education for the purchase of school supplies, including uniforms and backpacks.

Mr. Cortes said that such investments are being made because the Ministry of Education is looking to send clear signals to avoid distortions and ensure compliance with the Decree No. 164-13, which states that the public procurement of works, goods and services should be from the MSMEs.

The Decree No. 164-13, issued in June 2013 by the Government, instructs public institutions, including all Ministries, to source and purchase clothing from the MSMEs in the country, as long as they can provide them.
