To mark its 31st anniversary, the National Folk Museum in Mexico is currently hosting two textile exhibitions, featuring the indigenous woven materials of the North American country.

The first exhibit titled ‘Memory spinning’ displays more than 200 objects, made from hand spun naturally dyed yarns. Each of the displayed exhibits helps in reflecting the culture and iconography of the particular region where it has been produced.

Divided into thematic clusters, the featured items include blouses, male and female traditional costumes, backpacks, gauze, linens and pedal loom woven textiles like blankets, coats and ponchos.

The second expo named ‘Cover me with your shawl’ showcases an array of beautiful shawls woven by the artisans of Chiapas, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacan, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Tlaxcala and Veracruz.

Scheduled to run till October 27, 2013, the displayed naturally dyed cotton, wool, brocade and silk made shawls have been woven on pedal looms and decorated with rich intricate embroidery.
