Textiles industry is the backbone of the Pakistan’s economy and its promotion could lead to increase of overall exports volume as well as create new jobs, said Punjab state Chief Minister (CM) Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif while addressing representatives of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA).

An APTMA delegation had called on the Minister to discuss the textile industry woes and solutions for the same. The Minister pointed out to the delegation that the sector’s importance has been ignored due to which irreparable losses have been incurred by the textile industry of the country.

However, the Punjab CM explained that the textile sector is now improving fast owing to timely and effective steps of present Government.

Matters relating to gas supply to textile industry during winter were also discussed in the meeting and the Chief Minister assured the delegation that all options would be considered for supplying gas to the textile industry during winter.

The CM also expressed hope for tremendous progress in the textile sector after attaining the status of Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP+) status from the European Union (EU), which would boost textile exports besides increasing employment in the country.

Mr. Sharif said the Government was working round the clock to overcome energy crisis, and hoped that collective efforts would certainly yield results and the nation would be rid of energy shortage.
