The textile and clothing sales in the Czech Republic have increased by two percent year-on-year to 47.1 billion koruna (approx. US$ 2.37 billion) in 2013, Financni Noviny reported citing Czech News Agency.

Of this, the textile sector earned revenue of 40 billion koruna, while the clothing sector accounted for the rest.

However, the long-term trend of decline in employment in the nation’s textile and clothing industry continued and the number of people working in these industries fell by 3.7 percent year-on-year to 32,100 last year, according to the data released by the Association of Textile Clothing & Leather Industry (ATOK).

Meanwhile, the average wage in the Czech textile and apparel industry rose by 2.6 percent to 18,000 koruna, which is about 7,000 koruna lower than the average wage in the country.

The average wage in the textile sector was 20,100 koruna, while the average wage in the clothing sector was 14,200 koruna, the report said.

The Czech Republic’s exports of textiles and garments increased for the fourth consecutive year in 2013, and were the highest since 2000. Major destinations for Czech textiles and garments were Germany, Italy and France.

During the year, the Czech Republic imported most of its textiles and clothing from Asian countries, which accounted for about 58 percent of all clothing imported by the country.
