The production of textile industry in Spain registered a fall of 4.2 percent year-on-year, for the month of January, 2014, as per the latest Industrial Production Index (IPI) data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the INE data, the IPI registered in the textile sector of the country during the month of January is a decline, compared to the 1.1 percent year-on-year rise recorded in the IPI of the sector during the month of December, 2013.

The IPI in the Spanish garments sector also registered a decrease of 15.5 percent in the month of January 2014, compared to the same month last year.

However, the IPI of the overall Spanish industry registered an increase of 1.1 percent in January 2014, as compared with the same month of the previous year.

The IPI measures the monthly progress and productivity of industries, including extractive industries and the manufacturing sector. This indicator reflects only the quantity and quality of production, eliminating the influence of prices. This methodology is fully harmonized with the European Union countries.
