Ethylene prices move up in Asia and US last fortnight

The prices of ethylene increased in Asia and the US in the last fortnight ending April 30, 2014, compared to the previous fortnight ending April 15, due to limited product availability in those regions. However, prices decreased in Europe in the last fortnight owing to ample product availability in the region coupled with weak downstream demand.
 
In F E Asia, the average price of ethylene in the last fortnight was US$ 1375/ton, which was 0.36 percent higher compared to the previous fortnight’s average price of $1370/ton.
 
In S E Asia, the average price of ethylene in the last fortnight worked out to $1465/ton, up 1.38 percent vis-à-vis the average price of $1445/ton in the previous fortnight. On May 7, 2014, ethylene prices were assessed at $1465/ton.
 
In the US market, the average price of ethylene surged up by 4.76 percent to 55 cents/pound in the last fortnight, as compared to the average price of 52.50 cents/pound in the previous fortnight.
 
In Europe, the average price of ethylene decreased by 1.27 percent to $1165/ton in the last fortnight, as against the average price of $1180/ton in the previous fortnight.
 
In the first half of the last fortnight, in the European domestic market, selling prices of ethylene declined and were offered in the range of € 860/ton to € 865/ton, while in the second half of the last fortnight selling offers for ethylene were quoted at € 860/ton. On May 6, prices were quoted at € 885/ton.
