Paraxylene prices fall in global markets last fortnight
12
May '14
The average price of paraxylene (PX) in the Korean market for April 2014 worked out to US$ 1190/ton, which is a decline of 17.37 percent over the average price of $1440/ton recorded during the same month last year. However, on a month-on-month basis, the average PX price increased by 0.85 percent compared to March 2014’s average price of $1180/ton. On May 10, prices were assessed at $1160/ton.

The downtrend in PX price in Asian markets in the last fortnight ending April 30, 2014, was due to weak buying sentiments coupled with poor downstream demand trend.

In Far East Asia, the average PX price in the last fortnight was $1180/ton, down 1.67 percent as against the average price of $1200/ton in the previous fortnight ending April 15, 2014.

In Southeast Asia, the average price of PX was $1205/ton in the last fortnight, lower by 1.23 percent compared to the average price of $1220/ton in the previous fortnight. On May 10, PX prices were assessed at $1180/ton.

In European market, too, PX prices plunged due to poor demand coupled with bearish price trend in the Asian and U.S.A markets. The average price of PX decreased marginally to $1105/ton in the last fortnight, vis-à-vis the average price of $1110/ton in the previous fortnight. On May 9, prices were assessed at $1100/ton.

In US, the average PX price fell by 1.28 percent in the last fortnight to $1155/ton, as compared to the average price of $1170/ton in the previous fortnight.
