Mr. Rajkumar said that there was a delay in cotton sowing due to late monsoon in the country and therefore, the new cotton arrival would also be delayed. The availability of cheaper cotton from the international market would partially balance the prices in the Indian market as China has also planned to reduce its imports.  He has pointed out that as China has moved to fine and superfine counts it has to depend on India and Pakistan to meet its coarser and medium count textile products.  He felt that as Pakistan is diverting its exports to EU taking advantage of the 9.6% additional benefit under GSP Plus Agreement, India would have more opportunities in China and other international markets.

SIMA Chief stated that there would be stability in the cotton and yarn prices in the coming months enabling the exporters in the downstream sectors to have a competitive edge in the global market.

Mr.Rajkumar has thanked the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Finance Minister, Hon’ble Commerce Minister and Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles for taking various proactive steps on a fast track mode to regain the momentum in the textile business having declared this sector as the thrust area for the economic and inclusive growth in the country.  He has also thanked the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for lifting the power cut and evacuating the wind energy to the maximum extent possible enabling the textile mills in Tamil Nadu to have competitive edge in the open market.
