Coats Phong Phu, the Vietnam business of Coats Plc, world’s leading industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business, has won the People Empowerment category at the sixth Vietnam Supply Chain Awards.

The Vietnam Supply Chain, national association for supply chain professionals awards, which was held in Ho Chi Minh City and attended by over 300 business leaders, honours the best practice of businesses and individuals in the supply chain industry in Vietnam.

Coats Phong Phu won the award due to its reputation as an inspirational company to work and its committed people. The judges recognised its people strategy as being built around ‘care, trust, innovation, and long term success’. The company has increased its employee engagement level from 57 per cent in 2010 to 80 per cent in 2013.

It has a culture of continuous improvement with 96 Kaizen projects and 47 individual Lean Six Sigma certifications this year. The company also recently celebrated 25 years of operating in Vietnam through its highly successful joint venture with Phong Phu Corporation, a state-owned textile company and member of Vietnam National Textile & Garment Corporation.

Bill Watson, the managing director for Coats Phong Phu, said, “We are extremely proud to have won this award which is testimony to the talent and dedication of our people who have contributed to the success of our business. One of the three goals of our business is positive teamwork which is what people empowerment is all about.”

The awards are open to companies across all industry sectors. Vietnam Supply Chain invites leaders from the supply chain industry in Vietnam as well as throughout Asia to judge the nominations. The criteria for the awards include the nature and complexity of the operations, value generated, and the level of internal and external communication.

Coats plc is the world’s leading industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business, at home in more than 70 countries, employing over 20,000 people across six continents. (GK)
