The seminar was hosted by the technical partner of the show, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, a German government agency.
According to Sandeep Agarwal, organiser of the show, there is an environmental impact in every stage of denim production due to usage of water, fuel and chemicals.
He, however, added that the Bangladesh industry has already started using environment-friendly solutions in production of denim fabrics.
Regional sustainability manager at C&A, Kazi Mohammad Iqbal Hossain said that only one per cent of total worldwide cotton production is organic.
“Agencies and government should support cotton producers both in Bangladesh and abroad to boost environment-friendly cotton production,” he said.
There was also a panel discussion moderated by former vice-president of BGMEA, Faruque Hassan and the panelists were Envoy Textiles CEO, Tushar Tripathi, Diesel founder, Adriano Goldschmied, Thomas Dislich, CEO at Vicunha Europe and Italian designer, Piero Turk.
The delegates at the seminar included representatives from various textile mills, garment factories, buying houses, fashion professionals, dyes and chemical companies, etc. (AR)
