At the ongoing Techtextil, the Walter Reiners-Stiftung Foundation honoured three successful young engineers for research in textiles.

The prize-winning papers included fabrication of fibre composites, a modelling approach of a parachute and development of textile implants for the treatment of bone fractures.

“Peter Dornier, chairman of Lindauer Dornier and also chairman of the Walter Reiners-Stiftung Foundation honoured the researchers,” a press release from VDMA Textile Machinery Association informed.

The promotion prize in the dissertation category endowed with €5,000 was awarded to Dr. Wolfgang Trümper of TU Dresden.

In his dissertation, he showed how preforms for fibre-reinforced composites in 2D and also 3D can be produced by flat knitting technologies.

The promotion prize of €3,000 in the diploma category was bagged by Jan Fleischmann too of TU Dresden and his subject was the modelling approach of a reserve parachute.

Moritz Eger, also of TU Dresden was rewarded the best student research award with the creativity prize amounting to €2,000.

His project was on development of a textile reinforced osteosynthesis implant for the treatment of bone fractures.
