Pakistan's 2014-15 cotton output at 14.871 mn bales

Pakistan’s final cotton output in 2014-15 season stood at 14.871 million bales, much higher than 13.488 million bales estimated by the Cotton Crop Assessment Committee (CCAC) at its third meeting in December last year.
 
In 2014-15 season, a total of 14,871,174 bales of cotton were received at different ginneries across the country, according to the final report on cotton arrivals, prepared by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners’ Association (PCGA), in joint cooperation with All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA).
 
There has been an increase of 11.03 per cent in cotton arrivals compared to 2013-14 season’s output of 13,391,694 bales, according to the PCGA data.
 
In Punjab province, the total cotton arrival in 2014-15 season grew by 13.14 per cent year-on-year to 10.896 million bales, according to the data. In Sindh province, cotton arrival increased by 5.70 per cent to 3.974 million bales.
 
Of the total arrival, 94,900 bales were procured by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan, while 475,174 bales were bought by exporters. Over 14 million bales were purchased by domestic textile companies.
 
In 2013-14 cotton season, Pakistan’s cotton output increased by 3.69 per cent to 13.391 million bales, compared to the previous season’s production of 12.915 million bales. (RKS)
