The Sri Lanka pavilion expo, held in Beijing Exhibition and Convention Center from December 28 to 30, saw participation by over 50 entrepreneurs who displayed a variety of products.

The event was one of the foremost South Asia Commodity Fair and provided an amazing opportunity for Sri Lankan exporters to enter the Chinese market. Goods showcased at the event include cosmetics, handlooms, arts and crafts, gems and jewelry, antiques and beverages.

Large as well as medium and small scale enterprises were given the opportunity to stand at par for promoting their goods. China's import from Sri Lanka has soared compared to 2006 by 32 percent reaching US $44 million.

The exhibition was sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and seven South Asian countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka participated in the fair.

Through this fair, exhibitors were given the motivation to learn from practical experiences that would broaden their knowledge base about preferences of Chinese consumers. Besides, the participants also showed eagerness to partake in future events in China.
