Apparently, China's caprolactam consumption reached about 7,75,500 tons in 2007, representing an increase of about 40,000 tons over 2006, which was around 7,35,000 tons.
In this period, the country imported nearly 4,72,500 tons of caprolactam, accounting for 60.9 percent of the total consumption, where as domestic output was about 3,03,000 tons, accounting for 39.1 percent of the total production.
Thus, from the statistics, it is quite obvious, that the domestic production could not meet the demand and China has to rely heavily on imports to fulfill its requirement.
