In order to commemorate International Mother Language Day, Noakhali is holding a month long handloom fair from February 8. The fair is organized by Handloom Board, at the local Textile Facility Centre in Choumuhani.

M Anwarul Iqbal, Textile and Jute Adviser inaugurated the exhibition. He suggested that people should use more of local handloom products so that it can help in strengthening the economy.

The advisor further said that the industry is going through rough phase as weavers are unable to function smoothly due to the increase in the thread price. To over come this persisting problem, the Government is taking various initiatives to boost the handloom sector. Along with this, Bangladesh Textile Industries Corporation will also be lending a helping hand by providing thread to the weavers at reasonable prices.

More than 100 stalls have been put up displaying colourful handloom creations. There is a huge variety of carpets, wall pieces, bags and home furnishing products available for the visitors. The local industry is expecting a good response from the localities at the expo.
