Radici Radyarn to launch Nanofeel synthetic fibre at Expofil

At the upcoming Expofil 2008, RadiciGroup Radyarn is launching Nanofeel, RadiciGroup's innovative nanotechnology-based synthetic fibre, developed in collaboration with the Swiss firm HeiQ Materials.

“Today nanotechnology is an important tool to gain a competitive edge on the international market,” said Andrea Borgis, RadiciGroup Radyarn marketing manager. “It is not only about technological challenges, but also product innovation driven market niches as well. Nanotechnology will help create new market opportunities.

“Therefore, incorporating nanotechnologies in the production of synthetic fibres constitutes a major advancement for our Group. We are proud of this new product. It is a fibre that reduces bacterial proliferation in the fabric thanks to the bacteriostatic properties of a silver-based nanostructred additive."

"The nanostructured additive is incorporated into the fibre before spinning. This is also an important innovation. As a first step, the new technology has been developed for polyester fibre. We are now in the process of extending its application to polyamide fibre.”

“After the trials carried out during the past year,” Andrea Borgis continued, “we are now starting Nanofeel production in our plants in Villa d'Ogna in the province of Bergamo, Italy, and Stabio, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. Nanofeel is targeted at two markets sectors: the polyester version is for intimate apparel and sportswear to be worn directly incontact with the skin, and the polyamide, for intimate apparel in general.”

RadiciGroup will present the results obtained with its new Nanofeel synthetic fibre at Expofil, the important industry event to be held in Paris.
