CITI submits Pre-Budget Memorandum for 2008-09

Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) is the apex Industry Chamber of the textile and allied industries.
With 19 industry organizations in the sector covered directly by the Confederation and close cooperation with several others, including the Export Promotion Councils, CITI has become the rallying point for the entire industry covering textiles and garments of all fibres and also textile machinery.
The Central Budget during the last four years have provided significant relief to the textile industry by way of rationalizing the fiscal duty structure and reducing duties.
However, with the current crisis in the textile and clothing industry, emanating from the steep and fast appreciation of Rupee, further simplification and liberalization of the excise and customs duty structure and enhancing the facilities available on exports will be necessary to ensure sustained development of this industry and its exports.
