CloverTex plant, a textile mill near downtown Clover located near Presbyterian Church on Guinn Street, was caught amidst fire at 8.30 pm on February 25.

More than twenty firefighters from 3 volunteer fire departments of Clover, York and Bethel were on the accident spot by 9.30 pm while tools to prevent the spreading blaze were being arranged. The one-storey building is said to have been about 40 years old.

Thermal imaging cameras were used to find the exact center of fire. It was also observed that there was an insufficiency of water and that commanders planned to tap into the nearby hydrants to gain access to more water.

However, no injuries to any person in and around the mill have been reported and investigation as to the cause of the fire is still going on.

Experts opine that Clover mills and others like it are an easy victim to such unprecedented mishap, largely because they are filled with lint and cotton which are without doubt of combustible nature.
