Project for geological studies of Himalayan belt on anvil

The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Murli Deora has called for enhanced bilateral cooperation between India and Romania.
Addressing the inaugural session of Indo-Romanian Joint Working Group on oil and natural gas, Shri Deora emphasized the need for identifying new opportunities, tapping and utilizing potential for mutual benefit in oil & gas sector.
He suggested that companies of two countries should collaborate in exploration not only in India but also in third countries. Shri Deora offered to share Indian expertise and experience in revamping and modernizing refineries.
Shri Deora also informed that a research project is on the anvil which will facilitate combined work by two sides for geological studies of the Himalayan belt. This he said will open a new vista for cooperation in the Indian sub-continent.
Referring to the rich history of long standing friendly relations between India and Romania, Shri Deora acknowledged valuable contribution of Romania in the development of oil and gas sector.
Romania supplied first oil rig to India in March, 1956 along with many other drilling rigs and work-over rigs in our early days of oil and gas development, some of which are still operational.
Besides Romanian side trained many engineers of ONGC and helped our India flag ship E&P company in its oil field technology and equipment.
The first public sector refinery at Guwahati was also built with Romanian collaboration which was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 1st January, 1962.
