Tackling the environmental concerns, Mr. Paswan made it explicit that plastic by nature was recyclable and that 30-40% of plastics could be recycled.

"Lack of awareness about plastics and appropriate mechanism for segregation and disposal of plastic waste is the main problem.

Concerted efforts by the Government, industry and NGO's are required to bring awareness about the proper disposal of plastic waste and developing mechanism for systematic waste collection and recycling", concluded Mr. Paswan.

Earlier at the inaugural session, Mr. Peter Jordan, Dewitt and Company Inc, United Kingdom spoke on "Ethylene Projects & Competitiveness - Focus on the Middle East".

"Middle East project completion timings will continue to slip, with some getting delayed and some not commencing at all.

Operating rates and market stability will benefit and the year 2009 could be moving to a better balance", projected Mr Jordan while talking on the status of the Middle East projects and its implications on the global markets.

Discussing about the importance of cost of feedstock, Mr. Jordan highlighted that in order to be competitive, it was very essential to get cheaper feedstock.

And with the Middle East region being a heavily advantaged supplier, "low cost ethylene feedstock in Middle East, will continue to keep this region an advantaged region", concluded the eminent speaker.
