Texfusion, the buyer-seller meet aims to enhance powerloom sector

Under the aegis of Power loom Development & Export Promotion council, a buyer-seller meet, Tex-Fusion 2008, was organized for the first time in the 100 year old textile history of Ahmedabad at Maskati Market Mahajan & New Cloth Market.
The event was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister of Textiles, Mr Shankarsinh Waghela, who later addressed the audience.
The Minister urged the power loom sector in Ahmedabad to form a Special Purpose Vehicle and set up units in integrated textile parks, to better utilise the Centre's aids.
He also said under the integrated scheme, financial help of up to 40 percent of the total cost would be offered to the powerloom units. Waghela pointed out the significance of Mahajan tradition and urged the new generation of traders to maintain it.
Dr M S Mathivanan, Chairman of Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council, addressed the visitors. He said Ahmedabad had a major share in the powerloom industry in the country & urged Mr Waghela to explore ways for the growth of the sector.
Further, he also suggested setting up of high-tech weaving parks in Gujarat and added that India was way ahead of China in textile designing and subsequent value addition.
