Brunei is renowned for its carpets which are rich, vibrant and delicate and have a huge demand from the art lovers. More than 50 impeccable carpets, some being 100 years old, were put for auction at the Empire Hotel and Country Club recently.
Sam Wenneck, the auctioneer, witnessed the audiences bidding as high as around US $28,000 to own single precious piece of work. The auctions were made for grade six and seven, which are considered to be among highest class attained by carpets world over.
The carpet collectors gathered from various parts of world to enrich their personal collection. Mainly three distinctive features were examined by audience like are the warp, weft and knots which bring out the breath taking designs, for deciding the price to be paid for exclusive and rare carpets.
The priceless work of art gathered great appreciation for their intricate designs and richness.
