Essar Group plans a polypropylene unit in Jamnagar
Apr '08
Essar Group, a Gujarat based private refinery in India has plans to set up a polypropylene unit in Jamnagar.

The project is still in its nascent stage and therefore the exact size and amount of investment for the venture has not been determined yet.

Sources confirmed Fibre2fashion that the plant is likely to come up in the special economic zone of the company in Vadinar, an all weather deep-draft natural port on the west coast of India. Over 60 percent of crude oil imports to India land in and around this region.

The plant is likely to get positioned near the grassroots refinery of the company in Gujarat which has a capacity to produce 10.5 million tons of per annum.

The project on its completion is expected to produce Euro II and Euro III grades of petrol and diesel.

Moreover, with mid-stream upgradation of processes and technologies, the refinery will have the capability to process the most sour, acidic and heavy crude oil.

As of now, the group is in talks with two companies for a possible tie up for the plant.
