Prof. Lothar Kroll from Chemnitz University of Technology will open the two-day mtex 2008 Symposium with a lecture entitled “New Lightweight Construction Structures and Systems”. The Symposium will be held on 4 and 5 June 2008 alongside the “mtex – International Trade Fair & Symposium for Textiles and Composites in Vehicle Manufacturing”.

The lecture will cast some light on new research projects and product and process innovations, which are being developed at the Institute for General Mechanical and Plastics Engineering at Chemnitz University and this will form the opening to the two-day specialist Symposium at the mtex.

Petra Gottwald, editor-in-chief of the Melliand Textile Reports and Technical Textiles trade publications, will chair the day's sessions, which are devoted to the subject of “New Materials in Lightweight Construction and Composites” on 4 June 2008. As well as Prof. Kroll's opening address, other speakers will deal with specific applications in the automobile sector, the aerospace industry and the shipbuilding arena.

The six lectures on 5 June 2008 will focus on “Trends for Interiors and Seats”. Those attending the Symposium will gain some insight into the latest developments being pursued by industry and leading scientific institutes in Germany on “sensing the spatial aspects of vehicle interiors” to “feel-good seats” and even “microsystems in technical textiles”.

The 2008 mtex Symposium will once again provide a high-quality transfer of knowledge on technical textiles for all kinds of vehicle manufacturing – from cars and commercial vehicles to railway wagons and even planes and ships.

The complete programme of the 2008 mtex Symposium is now available at its website.

About 150 German and international exhibitors and 2,500 trade visitors are expected to attend the second edition of the mtex. More than 100 well-known companies, research centres and institutes had already booked their exhibition stand at the time of writing.
