Textile and apparel exports surge in March

According General Administration of Customs, the textile and garment exports of China amounted nearly US $11.827 billion in March 2008, up by 49.19 percent, when compared to same period last year.

Textile exports registered almost $5.061 billion, an increase of 53.36 percent. Exports of garments witnessed a growth of 44.99 percent, fetching approximately $6.766 billion.

In the first quarter of this year, textile and garment exports of the nation reached up to $37.444 billion, growing by 19.44 percent. Among them, textile exports marked nearly $14.243 billion, rising 28.08 percent, apparel exports scored $23.201 billion, showing a hike of 14.69 percent.

According to industry insiders, data are better, than expected as the spring festival hardly affected the functioning of units. A substantial increase is also marked in the export orders by the clients world wide.

The increase of 19.44 percent in Q1 of 2008, reflect the good year ahead for domestic textile and apparel exporters.

In January, textile and apparel exports of China experienced a growth of 25.21 percent by reaching $14.984 billion. Textile exports fetched $5.575 billion and apparel exports generated revenue of almost $9.409 billion, representing an increase of 33.63 percent and 20.71 percent.

Owing to extreme weather conditions in February, a fall of 8.5.percent was observed in textile and garment segment. Exports could merely reach $10.288 billion with textile contributing nearly $3.794 billion decreased by 0.71 percent. The export of cloths experienced a decline of 12.5 percent, earning $6.494 billion from foreign markets.
