Benzene price for Asian market moves further

Stronger crude oil and gasoline futures had been able to stimulate Asian pure benzene market, this Wednesday. FOB Korea raised by US $9.5 to close at $1128.25-1129.25 per ton; Southeast Asian market closed at $1119.50-1120.50 per ton. Continued rise in crude oil, gasoline and naphtha prices provided strong support to pure benzene.

Although, Japanese Ibaraki Kashima Aromatics could not identify the specific date to restart its PX plant, it is reported that the company, from spot market, purchased 1-2 cargoes to be delivered in May and June, to maintain contract supply. Kashima Aromatics has annual capacity of 190,000 tons of pure benzene.

In Southeast Asian market, Thai Paraxylene launched its new aromatics device in Sri Racha two weeks ago. Although present operation rate is below 50 percent, the company expects to run on its full capacity by the end of May.

TPX intended to ship out pure benzene and toluene cargoes by the end of April; however, it has postponed its plans. The company produces 170,000 tons of pure benzene annually.
