This year, AP Seed Development Corporation (APSDC) will supply Bt1 variety of cotton seed at Rs659 per packet and Bt2 seeds for Rs750 per packet.

The state government will supply about 5,00,000 packets including 2,00,000 packets of Bt1 seeds and 3,00,000 packets of Bt2 seeds for this khariff season.

So far, only one company, Krishidhan Seeds, has agreed to supply seeds at the rates fixed the Government.

An increase in the prices of cotton seeds had been demanded by the manufacturers but the Government rejected their plea to take the decision in favor of the farmers providing them with subsidized cotton seeds.

In spite of asking quotations for seed prices from major producing companies, no reply was given by the latter. Adventa is the only other company apart from Krishidhan who has expressed interest in supplying seeds at the same fixed prices.

The company is only waiting for an approval from the Government for allowing the supply of Bt2 seed variety.

The demand for cotton seeds in the state stands at about 35 lakh packets and farmers are hopeful that the Government will meet these demands in the most effective and feasible way possible.
