Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA), leading self-help group, from India is negotiating with Mexican social enterprises for organizing a Trade fair in Mexico. The purpose of holding this exhibition is to help underprivileged women, who earn their living by working in this organisation.
A delegate from SEWA is all set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Mexican Government for expanding the market for handicraft items in the country.
SEWA had meetings with Margarita Zavala de Calderon, the First Lady of Mexico and Rafaela Luft, Director of FONART, the Indian self-help group's Mexican counterpart for promoting national craft on a larger scale.
The Mexican officials showed keen interest in trading with India. In turn Mexico seeks support of SEWA in setting up a similar centre in the nation.
The members of self help group had accompanied the President of India, Ms Pratibha Patil, during her official visit and are extremely content with the response they received from Mexican counterpart.
