Export sees an increase of 1.24% in April

In terms of US dollars the imports increased by 7.24% in April, 2008 $ 4,099,954 thousands (provisional) as compared to March, 2008 $ 3,823,265 thousands (provisional) and by 59.32% as compared to April, 2007 $ 2,573,464 thousands.

Imports during July-April, 2007-2008 totalled Rs.1,979,103 million (provisional) as against Rs.1,515,408 million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 30.60%.

In terms of US dollars the imports during July-April, 2007-2008 totalled $ 32,061,108 thousands (provisional) as against $ 24,993,038 thousands during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 28.28%.

Main commodities of imports during April, 2008 were Petroleum products (Rs.41,977 million), Petroleum crude (Rs.37,708 million) and Raw cotton (Rs.6,588 million).

Based on the provisional figures of imports and exports the balance of trade in April, 2008 was (-)145,632 million in terms of Rupees and (-)2,291,411 thousands in US dollars. The balance of trade figures cumulative from July-April, 2007-2008 were (-)1,038,619 million in terms of Rupees and (-)16,805,639 thousand in US dollars.

Four statements giving quantity and value details of selected commodities of exports and imports for the month of April, 2008 and July-April, 2007-2008 along-with the data for previous month and corresponding period are enclosed.
