CEPA zero-tariff pushes up textile exports

According to the statistics from Hong Kong Trade and Industry Department, since the implementation of CEPA (Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement between Mainland and Hong Kong) in 2004, Hong Kong products exported into China Mainland under zero-tariff, have increased continuously, with a growth of more than 50 percent in four years.

To the end of 2007, cumulative exports from Hong Kong to Mainland amounted to over HK $11.2 billion. Textiles and clothing have been one of the main commodities, reaching HK $1.488 billion and accounting for 13.3 percent of the total amount.

Last year's entire exports under zero-tariff reached HK $4.43 billion, of which, textile and clothing exports formed HK $609 million, 43.6 percent higher than 2006.
