Textiles committee - first inspection body under ISO 17020

It has also been assigned the task of monitoring and administering the National Quality Campaign and to oversee effective function of the National Information and Enquiry Services.

The National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), under the QCI, undertakes assessment of certification bodies applying for accreditation as per the Board's criteria in line with international standards and guidelines.

The Board offers accreditation to the certification bodies and inspection bodies. Textiles Committee is managed by 29 member committee representing the Government, textile trade and industry and export promotion councils.

Its basic mandate is to ensure quality of textiles and textile machinery both for domestic as well as export purposes. It has been serving the Indian textile trade and industry, with this basic objective, for the past 4 decades. The Committee has 27 offices, with 17 accredited laboratories, all over the country including the Head Office at Mumbai.

It is manned by more than 400 textile/chemical technologists supported by over 200 other supporting staff. The Committee as such has considerable experience and expertise in inspection of all textiles and textile articles and has been rendering services to more than 10,000 mills/manufacturers/exporters etc.
