Import price of fibre marks an upward trend

According to General Department of Customs, during the first four months of 2008, the importing price of fibre was approximately US $1,630 to 2,719 per ton.

The price quoted from Taiwan in April 2008 was nearly $1,733 per ton, up by 0.3 percent over March and 9.9 percent over same period of 2007.

In the same line, the quotation from China was at $2,505 per ton, an increase of 18.7 percent compared to previous month and 12.6 percent over same period of last year.

Other key suppliers also raised the prices, including Thailand that quoted rate at $1,672 per ton, showcasing a rise of 21.8 percent yearly. Price cited by Korean suppliers touched almost $2,463 per ton, a yearly boost of 15.75 percent.

From January to April 2008, Vietnamese textile and apparel industry imported nearly 1,43,000 tons fibre of all types for local production purpose.

The nation had to spend around $272 million on imports, witnessing a growth of 12 percent and 27.7 percent respectively in comparison with same period of 2007.
