A massive explosion at Maoming ethylene plant of Sinopec in Guangdong city came as a sudden and most unpleasant shock in the evening on June 3.
A source confirmed to Fibre2Fashion that, the fire took place in one unit of the factory, and was brought under control almost immediately. The likely cause of this incident is the strong lightning.
Reportedly, blazes as high as 40-50 meters were seen at the site of this disaster, but no casualties have been registered. Source informed that total damage is estimated at around 6,50,000 ton per annum.
Insiders said that the key officials held a meeting to discuss further course of action and plan a maintenance downtime.
The time of when the unit will restart has yet to be decided. However, source was optimistic that the unit will be operational soon.
