'Technologies for Cotton Development' - theme of ICAC Meeting

Mr. Nick Earlam of Plexus Cotton, Mr. Richard Haire of Queensland Cotton and Mr. Damas Büchi of Dunavant S.A. were the first three individuals to register for the 67th Plenary Meeting of the ICAC. The three registered almost simultaneously on the first day on which registration on the Internet was open in May.

Approximately 500 participants are expected, including about 150 participants from across Africa and 350 from other continents. About one-third of registered delegates will be government officials and two-thirds are usually from the private sector. Registration is available on-line at www.ICAC.org or by contacting the Secretariat for a registration booklet.

The meeting will be held during November 17-21, 2008 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The venue for the meeting is an international conference center. A five-star hotel sits next to the conference center and will serve as the primary hotel for the meeting.

There are additional hotels nearby. An impressive schedule of social events featuring African culture is planned. Ms. Norma Townsend, wife of the executive director of the ICAC, previewed the shopping and sightseeing opportunities during an advance visit to Ouagadougou in January 2008 and will participate in the Plenary Meeting again this year.

The theme of the 67th Plenary Meeting is Technologies for Cotton Development. The theme will provide opportunities to showcase the role of technologies in raising yields, reducing input costs and improving the competitiveness of the cotton industry. The format of each session will be designed to optimize time for discussion.
