FACT delivers good perfomance in April-May 2008

The Fertilisers And Chemicals Travancore Limited, (FACT), a Govt of India enterprise based in Kochi, Kerala, has performed well during the first two months of the current fiscal with a total production of over 92,000 tonnes of Factamfos and 35000 tonnes of Ammonium Sulphate.

Though there has been a general slow down in the production of phosphatic fertilizers in South India due to the steep hike in the price of raw materials, FACT has been able to sustain production to a great extent and make fertilisers available to the farmers of South India.

But due to the shortage of certain raw materials, FACT is constrained to go for a strategic rescheduling of production.

Even though FACT is having a long term contract with Indian Potash Ltd, (IPL), for continuous supply of raw materials, the same will become fully operational only by July 2008.

There is a shortage of raw materials during the current month which necessitated this production rescheduling.

Since there is sufficient stock of ammonia and low load operation of the plant is not economically viable, the plant is temporarily shut down.

Consequent on that caprolactam operations are also temporarily suspended. We have enough stock of caprolactam to cater to the needs of caprolactam users for the next couple of months.

Demand for Ammonium Sulphate will pick up only by July/August, and we are already having a stock of 18000 tonnes of the fertilizers, which is enough to meet the requirements of farmers.

FACT is continuing with the production of Factamfos 20:20:0:13, at a reduced rate, as the monsoon has already set in South India.

Mean while, FACT has imported 23000 tonnes of Urea for supply in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. As a result of this, no substantial shortage of fertilizers is expected for the next two months in the marketing territory of FACT.
