Basic chemical production depicts a declining trend in May

According to the statistics revealed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA), the overall growth of basic chemical production fell in the month of May.
Growth of both organic products and synthetic materials has been diving considerably and this includes the output of ethylene which totaled at 909,000 tons, down by 1.7 percent compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, production of pure benzene amounted to 332,000 tons, down by 6.7 percent while that of synthetic resin and synthetic fibres reached 2.678 million tons and 1.936 million tons, up by 3 and 1.6 percent respectively. However, growth for the last two fell by 17.7 and 19.3 percentage points.
In contrast to this, certain chemical and resource intensive products with high-energy consumption posted a robust growth trend in May.
But according to what CPCIA has to say, chemical production may continue to fall even in the future due to weak market demand resulting from slow global economic growth anticipated in the second half of this year.
